What security measures does Colonial have in place to protect my financial information when banking online?
The privacy and security of your accounts is of paramount importance to Colonial Bank; therefore, Colonial Bank has added a layer of security to protect the confidentiality of your accounts when banking online. In addition to a personal user ID and password, Colonial Online Banking customers are required to create their personal security profile the first time they log on to the upgraded system. This profile will ensure that you and only you are accessing your account(s).

Colonial Online Banking has instituted a number of security measures including:

Personal Security Validation
As an added layer of security, Colonial Online Banking customers must select answers to three security questions. If we ever need to confirm your identity, the correct answers to the security questions help us verify that we are communicating with you, not an impostor.

Individualized Password
When you sign up for online access, you will create your own username and password, which will be used each time you log on to online banking to access your accounts. This information is encrypted, or scrambled, during transmission.

Automatic Logoff
Colonial Online Banking automatically logs you off after 10 minutes of inactivity. This reduces the risk of others accessing your account information from your unattended computer.

Firewall
Colonial Bank's computer systems are protected at all times by a robust firewall that blocks unauthorized users from accessing your account information. In order to gain access to authorized information, your Web browser must recognize the correct language, and even then only restricted information is available.

Encryption
All online access including bill pay sessions are encrypted during your online session. Encryption is the scrambling of information for transmission between two points. A key is required to decode the information. When you request information about your accounts, the request is sent to Colonial encrypted. Your request for information is decoded and information is sent back to you in an encrypted format. When you receive it, your information is decoded so that you can read it. Encryption protects your account information so it can't be intercepted and read by a third party.

Constant Surveillance
Colonial's Information Security team maintains and monitors our security systems to ensure your accounts are safe and secure.

Technology updates
To maintain high security standards to ensure protection of your financial information at all times, Colonial Bank is committed to updating the technology as it becomes available.

How does the personal security validation work?
The first time you log on to the upgraded system, you will be asked to select three questions and provide the answers. If we ever need to confirm your identity, simply provide the correct answers to the security questions so we can verify that we are communicating with you, not an impostor.

If you log into a computer that our system doesn't recognize, we'll prompt you to answer a question to ensure that you and only you have access to your account(s).

What does real time mean?
Real time refers to the availability to view transactions on accounts as intra-day activity occurs. For example, if you visit your local branch and make a deposit or go to a restaurant and pay with a check card, when you return to your computer and log in to Colonial Online Banking, the transaction you made will show in your balance, as well as appear in your account register as a pending transaction.
